About the Nursery

Marigold Nurseries is a fourth-generation, family owned and operated garden centre that supplies both retail and wholesale customers in Greater Victoria and up and down Vancouver Island. Marigold was started in 1944 by founder Les Smith and is now operated by his son Ray Smith along with his three kids Brooke, Rayanne and Randy.

We supply a wide-range of products, everything you need for year-round gardening: soil, shrubs, trees, fruit trees, fertilizers, organic products, seeds, bulbs, tools, bedding plants, perennials, mixed containers, veggies, hanging baskets, moss baskets, custom containers, hanging baskets, giftware, Christmas trees and ornaments. We even sell bugs for organic pest control.

Marigold has 24 locally-hired staff members and up to 60 staff during the February to June peak season. "We have very knowledgeable, helpful and enthusiastic staff here at the nursery always willing to help customers out", says Ray Smith. The nursery has over 100,000 square feet of greenhouse space, where we grow almost all our own annuals, including 22,000 garden mums and 20,000 poinsettias. We also operate a wholesale division that provides quality products to local businesses up and down Vancouver Island.

During the year we offer seminars for our customers on topics such as bulb planting and container gardening. In the spring, we offer a workshop on making your own flower baskets. We are open every day of the year except Christmas and Boxing Day, New Years Day and the August long weekend Monday when we close for a staff party.

We are proud to be a supporter of the Saanich Peninsula Hospitals Foundation and of our membership in the Million Dollar Club for the Shriners Burn Fund. We also support local sports teams such as the Marigold Nursery Rebels and provide bedding plants and hanging baskets for school and team fundraisers.
